Director - Financial Reporting
Your Opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Corporate Finance, this position is a key leadership role and would lead the Health Shared Services (“HSS”) Financial Reporting team to focus on financial reporting and associated elements to meet legislative and audit requirements. This position works closely with Leadership, the Ministry, and various programs to lead and manage all financial reporting functions and accountabilities. Duties include: overseeing the preparation and review of financial reports and financial statements prepared in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS); preparing grant/donor financial reporting; providing GST or other tax advisory services; support preparation of the annual Financial Statement Discussion and Analysis (FSD&A) for inclusion in the Annual Report; preparation, quality review, coordination and timely submission of other key financial reports including quarterly financial statements, monthly financial statements, ministry reporting, plus other ad hoc reports for HSS. This is currently a remote work from home position and therefore applications from across the province are welcome. It is a full-time assignment expected to start in June 2026 with a negotiable start date.
Description:
As the Director, your role will include activities such as: Reviewing and performing analysis of financial statements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. This would include the following activities: performing quality control review, ensuring reports comply with relevant standards or directives, and presenting the results to Finance and Executive Leadership. Recommending and/or implementing changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial reporting cycle and related internal controls over financial reporting. Technical Accounting Research – including providing reviews, guidance and assistance to peers/staff and other finance departments by interpreting technical accounting standards (specifically PSAS) to ensure the financial transactions are appropriately accounted for and disclosed. Resource Management - Providing leadership, coaching, supervision, and direction to staff including coordinating and allocating workload assignments and reviewing of work. Coordinating and completing various ad-hoc finance projects as requested by Finance leadership including the Senior Director or CFO, Ministry and external agencies, as applicable. Act as a primary lead for external audits, including planning, coordination, issue resolution, and timely delivery of audit deliverables. Coordination and completion of tax research and provision of related advisory services (including engaging external tax consultants) with a specific emphasis on GST; Review and submission of annual tax returns. Work closely with internal partners across Finance, Shared Services, and operational teams to support reporting requirements. Collaborate with external partners such as auditors, regulators, and government stakeholders.

Post secondary degree specializing in accounting or related field. CPA Accounting designation. Other professional accounting designations plus relevant experience may also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated strong and current understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards. Knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation for large and complex clients in a public sector setting. Experience in grant/donor financial reporting and compliance for large and complex clients in a public sector setting. Experience in managing entity financial statement audits including the preparation of the required supporting documentation and audited financial statements. Experience in GST matters, preferably regarding Public Sector and/or Not-for-profit organizations. Knowledge of tax return preparation including charity returns and T2s. Proven ability to work with various stakeholders. Ability to work within tight reporting deadlines. Strong working knowledge of Oracle-R12 (ability to run, understand reports including related MIS standards), MS Office Suite applications specifically Excel and Word. Ability to function within a collaborative team environment. Excellent communication, analytical and organization skills. Ability to work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Over 10 years of accounting/financial reporting experience with preference given to financial reporting experience within a large, complex public sector entity. Audit experience related to large organizations Demonstrated experience in leading, managing and mentoring professional staff, including comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and collaboration across multiple areas. Experience in managing time-sensitive reporting deadlines.
