Director
Your Opportunity:
This position is primarily responsible for leading, organizing, planning, and fiscal management of the diagnostic imaging services with the Edmonton Zone, including the University of Alberta Hospital, Mazankowski Heart Institute, Kaye Edmonton Clinic, and Stollery Children's Hospital sites. The position identifies operational issues and formulates and implements solutions based on best practices. The position has a substantial role in short- and long-term planning for the service, including capital equipment requirements, program change, and expansion requirements. The position will also participate in various activities at the provincial level and will support the strategic direction of the provincial program.
Description:
Develops patient-focused imaging services aligned with AHS mission, vision, and goals, anticipating trends to support future planning and implementing strategies that enhance quality, access, and cost efficiency. Recommends and enables adoption of new technologies based on industry advances. Collaborates with Calgary Zone Diagnostic Imaging Directors to guide integrated services, including resource sharing, RIS/PACS decisions, quality assurance, and centralized booking and transcription. Contributes to provincial policies, participates in liaison groups, and develops business plans for growth initiatives, new services, and technologies. Establishes departmental goals aligned with AHS priorities and builds effective partnerships to ensure services meet clinical needs. Promotes collaboration across disciplines, resolves complex technical, operational, and patient care issues, and manages patient concerns using sound judgment. Liaises with Radiologists, manages contractual matters, and supports effective service delivery. Accountable for administrative, technical, and clerical performance outcomes. Provides leadership, direction, and policy interpretation, fostering engagement, development, change management, and performance evaluation. Ensures compliance with regulations and leads operational change aligned with a provincial vision. Oversees financial performance through budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis with Business Advisory Services, implementing cost strategies while maintaining quality and access. Identifies capital equipment needs, ensures alignment with program requirements, and supports evaluation and implementation. Accountable for all human resource functions, including recruitment, labor relations, and adherence to collective agreements and HR policies.

A minimum of post-secondary education in related health profession; a demonstrated clear pattern of professional development; progressive leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment, including a minimum of five (5) years in a management role with demonstrated success leading service improvements and operational initiatives; experience developing and implementing strategic and operational plans; proven ability to lead quality improvements, and uphold accountability standards; strong financial and resource stewardship including oversight of budgets and allocation of human, financial and physical resources; effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills with a track record of collaboration and interdisciplinary teams and external partner; practical experience in project and program management with measurable outcomes; strategic thinking skills with the ability to assess long term goals, risks, and implications.
Additional Required Qualifications:
The ability to inspire and build confidence in others; experience achieving organizational goals within a diverse unionized sector; experience building productive relationships with public agencies, government, boards, committees, and other partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
Related bachelor's or master's degree within a Health Profession preferred; progressive leadership of a minimum of five (5) years within Diagnostic Imaging.
