The Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is a bright modern, family centered facility that is a cornerstone of quality care for the populace of Calgary and Southern Alberta. The Echocardiography Department at the PLC provides specialized imaging for adults with cardiac complications and complex cardiac conditions such as congenital heart disease which require long-term medical management and specialized cardiac care. The PLC Echo lab is the primary Echo center for the Southern Alberta Adult Congenital Heart Clinic. As the Diagnostic Sonographer I for the PLC, you are a member of the Cardiology multi-disciplinary team and have an integral role in performing echocardiographic diagnostic testing within the Cardiology Department. You will be responsible for performing echocardiography studies including transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, Pericardiocentesis, echo stress testing, contrast studies and echocardiographic examinations for outpatients and inpatients with a primary focus on complex congenital heart disease and other cardiac conditions. Description:
As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.

Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Experience with providing specialized imaging for complex adult congenital heart disease patients with genetic arteriopathy, neuro muscular disorders, bicuspid aortic valves, atrial septal defects, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy anomalies and general adult congenital heart conditions. Knowledge and scanning expertise of all echocardiographic procedures such as but not limited to (2D-Mode/Doppler/Transesophageal/RV Biopsies/Stress Echo/Contrast). Experience using the following systems: ISCV, Connect Care. Successful completion of connect care training modules for cardiac sonographer.
Preferred Qualifications:Echocardiography experience with neonatal and pediatric Echocardiography. Minimum 2 year of experience as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in an acute care setting (equivalent to 0.5 FTE or greater) within the last 5 years.
