Your Opportunity:

Join a passionate team dedicated to helping eligible patients navigate, coordinate and receive Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). The coordinator is a key part of the MAiD Team, working out of Rockyview General Hospital. The position reports to the Care Manager and is responsible for coordinating and facilitating patient navigation, care delivery and operations related to MAiD in Calgary and Central Zone.

Description:

The Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) Coordinator provides information and education regarding MAiD services to patients, families, health care providers and the public. The coordinator works with an extended team including other Coordinators, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioner and Physicians to organize and facilitate MAiD. Strong planning, organization, problem solving, and decision-making skills are essential in addition to self-awareness and compassion. The successful candidate must be able to work in a stressful environment with tight deadlines and competing priorities. This complex position requires in-depth knowledge of Medical Assistance in Dying and End of the Life Care. The incumbent must be a self-starter who is able to initiate and complete tasks/projects independently. The position requires an ability to work and communicate effectively within a small but expert/complex interdisciplinary team.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Minimum 3 years experience in community-based role and/or palliative/end-of-life care. Clear pattern of working successfully in autonomous roles with the need for independent decision making. Must be comfortable with Medical Assistance in Dying. Effective communicator with proven ability to network and collaborate with multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to manage tight timelines and competing priorities under pressure. Must be physically able to perform the job (carrying up to 15 pounds: sitting for long periods of time).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated competence in prioritizing and planning. Working knowledge of health care system required. Demonstrated and clear pattern of professional and personal development. Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Problem solving, critical thinking and sound decision-making skills. Computer literacy, Connect Care, Red Cap. Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams within and outside of AHS.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to effect change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Knowledge of Medical Assistance in Dying legislation. Experience in Seniors Health. Master’s Degree preferred.
