Your Opportunity:

The Academic Medicine Health Services Program (AMHSP) is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, administration and evaluation of various AMHSP programs and initiatives for Alberta Health Services (AHS). AMHSP offer alternatives to the traditional fee for service physician compensation model and support physicians in taking an innovative approach to the delivery of health care. The Senior Financial Analyst provides specialized financial support to the Departments of Clinical Neurosciences, Psychiatry, Surgery, Anesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Calgary Zone. The incumbent supports both the academic and clinical sections of the five Departments and is responsible for the day-to-day management of all financial aspects within each Department (AHS and UofC). Primary responsibilities include development/maintenance and monitoring of department budgets, performing detailed variance analysis against budget; supporting month end, mid-month forecasting and annual budgeting processes for all AMHSP members; conducting in-depth reviews and analyses on AMHSP program requirements; participating in feasibility assessments and impact analyses; and managing contracts, payment creation and reconciliation. The Senior Analyst ensures continuation of data/information flow and develops comprehensive requirement documents detailing required data, functions, processes and general performance metrics to be incorporated within the scope of the defined solution. He/she will establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across multiple and diverse health environments (physicians, leadership, and staff) to fully understand business requirements and to ensure awareness and knowledge of corporate and programs values, goals, and principles.

Description:

As a senior financial analyst, you will coordinate and/or prepare complex financial and statistical analysis and reports, along with providing interpretation of analyses and reports to support business and external requirements. Your work will be focused on department budgets, forecasting, and recommendations for program and/or cost efficiencies and development or enhancements to processes and controls. Performing detailed variance analysis and external reporting requirements. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will be responsible for reporting and interpreting complex financial and statistical information to support senior level management, operating portfolios and external reporting requirements. In addition, you will coordinate and monitor progress of financial projects. This is a leadership position where the Senior Analyst will oversee and provide guidance and support to junior analysts and administrative staff.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics or a related discipline. A minimum of three years of experience in an accounting, financial planning, or financial advisory role. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills. Ability to perform strategically and systematically. A strong commitment to operating independently and within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrate ability to think and act strategically and solve problems with minimum supervision. Must be able to work comfortably in fast paced environment with great time management, critical thinking, and organizational skills. Work with minimum supervision and ability to meet deadlines. A strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Pursuing or completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA), or master's degree in related field (MBA) is preferred. Financial experience in a health care environment. Strong working knowledge of advanced MS Excel skills, oracle & hyperion applications.
