Clinical Instructor (Tech)

The Clinical Instructor provides leadership, education, and clinical expertise in Respiratory Therapy, with a primary focus on the education and supervision of students, orientees, and staff at Foothills Medical Center. This role supports high-quality clinical learning experiences while promoting safe, evidence-based respiratory care. The Clinical Instructor is an experienced clinician with strong teaching skills, progressive ideas, and the ability to mentor learners at varying levels of practice. The Clinical Instructor is responsible for overseeing the clinical experiences of Respiratory Therapy students, new hires, and staff in orientation. Key responsibilities include providing leadership, mentorship, quality and safety assurance, innovation, and contributing to the enhancement of respiratory care. Additional duties include supporting professional practice and development, staff competency evaluations, equipment evaluation, and providing guidance to preceptors and students. The role also includes assisting with day-to-day departmental operations, providing direct patient care when required, and acting as a clinical and educational resource for respiratory therapy staff, physicians, and RT students. The primary work assignment is adult clinical areas, with additional support to other respiratory therapy service areas in collaboration with Respiratory Services leadership. Daily service area assignments can be adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet department and operational needs. Description:
As a Clinical Instructor (Technologies), your primary responsibility will be the education and development of staff in our department, as well as other disciplines through orientation and continuing education. You will promote excellence and consistency in best evidence patient care in clinical practice. You will provide direct patient care in order to maintain competency and to understand the educational needs of the department. You will have a role in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, lead and/or participate in research projects, and develop training and educational modules/tools for new equipment/therapy and training requirements.

Active or eligible for registration with the applicable College or Association.
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Minimum 5 years present (current) independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience in an inpatient tertiary acute care hospital setting. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in: ICU, Level I ED, Wards, CVICU. Bachelor’s degree - health related. Experience with Simulation Education. Experience in Adult Education. CRE Demonstrated Leadership skills in a healthcare setting Preceptor training Completed FMC orientation Previous supervisory and change management experience Participation in a healthcare committee (within last 2 yrs) Leading or participating in QI initiatives (within last 2 years)
