Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Child Life, Education, Psychology or other related field.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) certification (individuals eligible to write their certifying exam within 6 months of the position start date will also be considered). Minimum 3-5 years of experience working as a Child Life Specialist in a tertiary pediatric health care setting. Demonstrated skills in non-pharmacological pain management techniques used to assist children and youth. Demonstrated experience with procedural preparation/supporting children/youth through painful procedures. Experience planning/facilitating therapeutic group programs for children and youth. Demonstrated ability to teach/deliver educational material to families in an engaging/meaningful way and experience prioritizing referrals from multiple program areas/units. Demonstrated ability to function independently and within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated understanding of Family Centered Care service delivery model. Due to the nature of a one-person program, experience in role advocating/program development is an asset. Effective communication with a family-centered focus. Demonstrated behaviors consistent with the values of AHS. A high level of physical effort (60-70%) is related to the clinical caseload. Position may be required to maintain a standing/sitting position with lifting, bending, and/or rotation related to client transfers or interventions. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-3 years of acute care pediatric experience in an inpatient setting. Experience working within Connect Care or other electronic health record system. Experience working with a therapy assistant and other interdisciplinary team members.
