Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity available within its Executive Leadership Team as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the Senior Vice President (SVP), Corporate and Clinical Support Services, the CFO establishes financial priorities, providing strategic financial advice and supporting finance functions that empower site leaders to make informed financial decisions through hospital-based leadership. The CFO works closely with Acute Care Alberta in the strategic allocation of funds and manages an operating budget of over $8.5B, capital budget of approximately $100M, and oversight of 97 employees. An accomplished leader, the CFO establishes and maintains positive relationships with local, provincial, and national representatives and stakeholders, including government departments and officials. This position’s location is negotiable and eligible for a remote/hybrid work arrangement within Alberta. Description:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) develops and monitors financial objectives and performance. They will work closely with Acute Care Alberta in the strategic allocation of funds and manages an annual operating budget of approximately $8.5B. The position establishes short- and long-term financial priorities including working with all areas to identify savings opportunities and track and report on savings and financial targets. The position develops strategies and priorities to be incorporated into the strategic/business/finance plans that reflect the short- and long-term operational needs of the organization. The CFO establishes objectives and standards through an integrated framework of goals and measures aligned with the strategic plan. Additionally, the position supports the re-design of the Financial Services office as the organization AHS moves to a hospital-based service provider. The CFO ensures financial reporting and compliance are carried out and in accordance with all required governance principles. The position is accountable for monitoring business performance and the development of tools to report results. The position establishes and maintains positive relationships with local, provincial, and national representatives and stakeholders, including government departments and officials. Furthermore, the CFO influences the direction of key organizational initiatives through interaction with internal and external partners and participants, particularly Acute Care Alberta and the Ministry of Hospital and Surgical Health Services.

Master’s degree in accounting, business, or finance or equivalent experience. Professional certification (CPA). A minimum of ten (10) years of senior management experience and and a track record of leading the finance function in very large, complex organizations is required. A combination of qualifications and experience may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience developing organization strategy, planning and leading strategic initiatives, and managing change to achieve positive results is required. The CFO possesses strong leadership abilities, including comfort with decision-making and exercising sound judgement. In addition to an ability to influence, negotiate, and mediate resolutions to complex situations, the CFO demonstrates a proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences, including interpersonal and public relations skills. The position requires a proven ability to foster partnerships to achieve organizational goals, a demonstrated ability to model innovation and creativity, as well as a proven record of engaging in ethical conduct.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a healthcare or public sector environment is preferred.
