Your Opportunity:

The Cold Lake Health Centre has an opening for a Surgical Processor to ensure the sterilization, reassembly, and distribution of hospital supplies, equipment, and surgical instruments per Alberta Health Services’ standards. This role is a vital member of the team to uphold infection control and safety protocols while supporting various units, clinics, and operating rooms. The days are busy where key duties include decontaminating, inspecting, sorting, and reassembling instruments, processing soiled equipment, and sterilizing operating room instrument sets. The Surgical Processor also maintains sterile inventory, ensures instruments function properly, conducts quality assurance testing, and follows aseptic techniques to prevent Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAI). Your knowledge with a full case cart system, anatomy, aseptic technique, infection control, and stock rotation will be needed for this role. We are looking for a person who is professional, meticulous, pays attention to detail, independent, confident and uses sound judgment while following procedures and instructions. Description:

As a Surgical Processor, you will be responsible for the decontamination, reassembly and sterilization of hospital supplies, equipment and surgical instrumentation. You will use the principles of aseptic technique and follow Universal Precautions in the prevention of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI). You will ensure instrumentation and equipment is in proper working order, perform biological, chemical and quality assurance testing and report problems to the supervisor or designate.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) program. Completion of an Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) certification or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be able to work nights and weekends with on-call capacity. Requires manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks using fine motor skills; must be without limitation affecting bending, standing and walking; must be able to lift 18 kilograms (40 lbs.) and push/pull carts weighing up to 114 kilograms (250 lbs.). Must have a minimum of 400 hours of practicum experience. Must be fully competent with Steris steam sterilizers, cart washer, Synergy washer/disinfector; and ARC Endoscopic sink and Medivators. Must be proficient in navigating Sterile Processing Microsystem, SPM. The ability to work in confined areas and through multiple interruptions. Previous experience in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with CSA certification with a minimum of one year of experience in the last two years in Medical Device Reprocessing will be given preference. Experience in OR theatre/core support.
