Your Opportunity:
Under limited supervision, performs a wide variety of journeyman level carpentry duties utilizing considerable initiative, judgment, and in accordance with building codes, blueprints, accepted carpentry practices, and department policy. Representative duties include the design, construction and repair of building structures, furniture and fixtures; coordinating and assigning the work of non-journeyman assistants; requisitioning of supplies; preparing project cost estimates and preparing related reports and recommendations. Designs, constructs, and repairs building structures, furniture, fixtures, and equipment; applies and repairs cement and plaster; installs glass, doors and windows; analyses department requests and problems and recommends solutions; drafts shop drawings and specifications for carpentry projects and may include maintenance of locks/keying systems and flooring. Performs maintenance duties such as: installation of bulletin boards, repairs furniture, counter tops, cabinets, doors and door hardware, ceiling tiles and hoarding. Trims parts or joints for snug fit, bores holes, glues, fits clamps, sands surfaces and edges for fine finishing, installs and maintains hardware. Assists in the design and implementation of the aspects of the preventive maintenance program which relate to area of expertise. Sets up, operates, adjusts, and maintains wood working equipment. Installs wallboard, tapes, applies mud, and fine finishes drywall. Coordinates, assigns the work of and trains non-journeyman workers assigned to assist with carpentry, and building projects. Prepares cost estimates, technical recommendations, and related reports. Requisitions or orders and stores supplies and materials. Performs other related duties as assigned. As a Carpenter , you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level carpentry duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with building codes, blueprints and standards and practices. As a Carpenter, you will perform work related to the design, construction and repair of building structures, furniture and fixtures. In addition, you will perform preventative maintenance duties on structures and fixtures. You will be responsible for selecting and ordering appropriate supplies and materials as required.

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Carpenter Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
Additional Required Qualifications:Certificate of qualification as a Journeyman Carpenter with Red Seal. Minimum of 5 years varied carpentry experience. Good knowledge of blueprint reading and ability to prepare simple drawings for the construction of new cupboards, counters, etc. Experience in specialty hardware and commercial building systems, cabinet work, ceiling systems, and dry wall. Experience with installation of commercial doors and door hardware. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Must be alert, accurate and reliable. Must be capable of working independently and possess good judgment and initiative.
Preferred Qualifications:Hospital carpentry experience would be an asset.
