Assistant Head Nurse - Patient Care Coordinator
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director of the Wetaskiwin Hospital, the Patient Care Coordinator will provide overall site support at the hospital during off hours and weekends, including but not limited to administrative and clinical support. Responsible for supervising the site in the absence of Senior Management, handling day to day concerns, managing patient flow, dispute resolution and resolving conflicts with an objective solution focused approach. Escalating operational issues to the Director and/or Manager as appropriate. Providing leadership and acting as the primary contact for dealing with staff or physician incidents, critical patient, or facility issues. The Patient Care Coordinator will approve short notice requests for special leaves, overtime and mandate staff as required to achieve safe staffing levels to provide patient centered care. Will collaborate with the Central Zone Staffing and Central Zone Administration on call when needed. The Patient Care Coordinator will ensure performance and safety standards are met and corrective action is taken. Ensuring policies are adhered to directly affecting the operations of the site in consultation with Director and Managers.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge about AHS policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in health care with recent experience in acute care and/or critical care within a hospital setting preferred. Previous managerial experience an asset. BScN preferred. Leadership Managerial Courses preferred.
