Assistant Head Nurse
Your Opportunity:
Unit 24 is a fast-paced general internal medicine unit that serves highly acute patients who require specialist care. As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting staff by acting as a role model, clinical resource, and advocate. You will play a key role in identifying and addressing medical and non-medical barriers to patient movement by working closely with physicians and interdisciplinary team members through collaborative discussion and creative solutions. You are responsible for managing unit staffing needs and assignments, as well as patient movement on the unit. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities and organizational policies. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, nursing staff, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Alberta Health Services.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent experience working as an Assistant Head Nurse on a general internal medicine unit is required. Demonstrated skills to teach, support and mentor staff. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement initiatives, patient flow and appropriate resource allocation. Excellent communication and documentation skills and ability to work with physicians and the multidisciplinary team in a busy, demanding environment. Excellent computer skills are required.
