Assistant Head Nurse
Your Opportunity:
Unit 22 is an acute inpatient Cardiology/Telemetry Unit where a candidate with experience and skill can manage a population of complex unpredictable and unstable patients. We are currently developing 6 CCU beds within the existing unit. The preferred AHN for this unit is one who has a strong interest in patients requiring cardiac related Nursing care and who can work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to provide family focused Nursing care. The AHN provides care throughout the life span, in all stages of health and complexities of illness.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:The candidate has demonstrated ability to perform and document physical assessments. Has a demonstrated ability to administer medications within the acute care setting. The candidate must possess excellent critical thinking skills re clinical judgment and problem solving. Recent experience in an acute care setting at full scope of practice is required. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Candidate must possess effective interpersonal communication skills. This environment is suitable for candidates who have certification in a relevant specialty area, Charge Nurse Experience, and past leadership training.
