We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant (CCAA) to join our anesthesia care team at the Chinook Regional Hospital in sunny, Lethbridge, Alberta. Reporting to the Manager or designate, under the clinical supervision & direction of the anesthesiologist, the Anesthesia Assistant functions as a member of an integrated surgical team by providing technical support & clinical assistance with all phases of anesthesia. The AA will administer medical gases, medications, blood, or blood products, & crystalloid or colloid solutions. Perform &/or initiate various invasive/ non-invasive monitoring techniques and blood tests, interpret results, evaluate patient’s response to interventions, & adjust parameters accordingly. Assist with nerve block placement & assessment. Perform mechanical ventilation management & internal transport of ventilated &/or anesthetized patients. Communicate effectively & in coordination with the surgeon, surgical team, and anesthesiologist. Perform crisis management by recognizing a critical event, notifying supervising anesthesiologist, initiate supportive or corrective actions. Participate in education or orientation of medical personnel, staff, & students. Relocation assistance may be available, if eligible.

As an Anesthesia Assistant, you will work under the direction of licensed anesthesiologists (specialist physicians) and as part of the anesthesia care team to design and implement anesthesia care plans. You will use your knowledge, clinical inquiry, and assessment skills to guide complex clinical decisions in time-sensitive situations.

Successful completion of an accredited post-graduate Anesthesia Assistant Program. Active registration with the applicable regulatory body. Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) membership with Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant (CCAA) designation.
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification. Member in good standing or eligible for registration with College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA). Eligible for Anesthesia Assistant membership with the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society (CAS). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Two (2) years of recent, related operating room experience including experience managing regional and general anesthesia.
Preferred Qualifications:Three (3) or more years of recent experience as an Anesthesia Assistant is an asset. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
