Your Opportunity:

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dedicated and systems-minded Advisor, EMS Safety Plans, to join our EMS Employee Programs team. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the safety and wellbeing of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff across the province by focusing on prevention and risk mitigation related to patient-to-worker harassment and violence. Reporting to the Program Lead, EMS Safe Workplace Culture, this position is responsible for the creation, management, and continuous monitoring of EMS behavioural safety alerts and plans. These tools help identify and communicate known risks, providing essential guidance to EMS practitioners on how to mitigate risk during interactions with patients. Your work will contribute to reducing the frequency and severity of workplace violence incidents. You will support AHS’ legislated responsibility to ensure all workers are informed about potential workplace hazards and how to eliminate or control them. Through collaboration, communication, and a systems-thinking approach, you will ensure safety information is effectively shared, maintained, and improved across all AHS EMS Zones. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of EMS practitioners across Alberta. You’ll help build a proactive, informed safety culture while working in a collaborative, innovative, and supportive environment. If you thrive in a role that blends policy, people, and prevention, we want to hear from you.

Description:

A core part of this role involves building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. The Advisor may act as a representative of EMS Employee Programs on various committees and will collaborate with various stakeholders which can include EMS leadership, frontline staff and practitioners, law enforcement, contracted service providers, and Workplace Health and Safety. Effective communication and training are also central to the position. The Advisor will ensure safety risks are clearly and consistently communicated to EMS staff and will provide practical guidance on how to engage safely during patient interactions. They will also develop stakeholder communications to keep relevant parties informed and aligned. To ensure continued success and relevance of these initiatives, the Advisor will create and maintain strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of safety alerts and behavioural plans. This includes tailoring provincial violence prevention resources to reflect the unique realities of EMS work and culture, identifying barriers to implementation, and applying Just Culture principles and quality improvement methods to guide ongoing enhancements.
