Your Opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Manager, Unit manager, and Clinician/Charge Nurse the Clerk for Day Medicine is responsible for: General reception duties including registration and booking, answering the telephone; relaying messages; faxing; assisting patients with questions, concerns, and maintains a high-volume clinic schedule/template. Informing patients, physicians, and outpatient multidisciplinary staff/departments involved in the appointments regarding any changes. Functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing organized and efficient service to the patients and clerical support to the professional staff. The clerk plays a key role in helping to foster a team environment in the Unit by facilitating communication between nursing and other disciplines, departments, patients and families and in maintaining confidentiality. Ordering of various office and paper supplies when needed. Coordinates with other departments such as IT and maintenance when issues occur within the clinic.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Experience and competency with multiple computer programs (MS Word, Excel, Connect Care). Experience with fax equipment, photocopier, multi-line telephones. Accurate keyboarding rate of 50 words/minute minimum. Ability to coordinate appointments and tasks via telephone and computer simultaneously. Demonstrated attention to detail. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) required. Courteous, kind and understandable phone manner required. Proven attitude and skill for excellent customer service Ability to work with frequent interruptions required. Ability to work effectively with members of a multidisciplinary medical team is required. Ability to adapt to changing/expanding environment required. Must be able to function in a high volume, fast paced environment with changing priorities. Must be organized, flexible, self-directed, and accountable for own work. Time management and ability to prioritize work is required. Ability to problem solve independently. Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and walking. Walking to other departments to pick up supplies may be needed. Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds repeatedly.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience in building and modifying complex patient schedules required. Connect Care knowledge and experience. Minimum of one year in a medical administrative position. Day medicine experience. Training completed in Ambulatory application of Connect Care.
