Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Training or education specific to the addiction and mental health needs of clients experiencing conflict with the law, including conducting screening, assessment and treatment. Strong knowledge of the Criminal Justice system. Specialized expertise around counselling and therapy for those with concurrent disorders. Knowledge of community resources. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years of experience in Addiction Counselling. Training in Motivational Interviewing and an understanding of harm reduction related to substance use. Strong working knowledge of family and intimate partner violence and relative contributing factors. Understanding of recovery oriented systems of care.
