Your Opportunity:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, your major areas of responsibility as part of the Community Addiction Services team, will include: providing intake, assessment and counselling services to individuals, families and groups; being familiar with, and making appropriate referrals to community agencies and groups; researching, developing and evaluating alcohol, other drug and gambling prevention programs and projects including community presentations; and providing consultation to individuals, agencies and groups with respect to substance abuse and gambling. Some evening work is required. As an Addiction Counselor III, you will depend on your relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years of counselling experience is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge in addiction and mental health treatment.
