Covenant Health has a VERY exciting opportunity for an experienced leader. The Acute Care After-Hours program is an in-house alternative provider coverage program that supports inpatient care at the Grey Nuns (GNH) and Misericordia Community (MCH) Hospitals. Reporting to the Manager of Acute Care Coverage (ACC), the Managing Consultant-ACC leads day-to-day operations, ongoing program optimization, and new service implementation by leveraging clinical acumen, collaboration and partnership building skills. By understanding market labor trends, policy changes impacting service delivery, and values-based, cultured inspired leadership, the Managing Consultant-ACC will drive operational excellence. The ACC Managing Consultant serves as the primary subject matter expert on ACC service requirements, operational needs, and innovation opportunities to best align operational plans with that of the clinical departments, acute services, and Covenant Health strategic direction. Working collaboratively across the Medical Affairs portfolio and operations, the Managing Consultant develops data-driven insights to inform workforce planning, manage complex contract and performance processes, and ensure alignment with organizational policies. Success will be through working closely with site operational and medical leaders to ensure quality care and service hours are delivered.

Description:

The Managing Consultant-ACC is a critical leadership role focused on managing day-to day operations of ACC program including support of clerical and professional staff to ensure the program is delivering high-quality, reliable, and sustainable after-hours services. In this position, you will oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and performance all staff including alternate care providers for Covenant's urban hospitals. You’ll be responsible for supporting new alternative providers through assessment and licensing processes while ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, including those of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Working closely with medical leaders, you’ll identify staffing needs, develop business cases, training plans, and manage scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage is sustained. You’ll play a proactive role in performance management of the alternative providers by identifying concerns early, supporting improvement plans, and using feedback and data to maintain high standards of care. A key part of the role involves the development of service delivery standards for both employee and contracted providers. Contract oversight—updating or terminating contracts as needed, monitoring provider activities, supporting payments, and compensation concerns are activities led by the managing consultant. In addition to provider oversight, you’ll supervise administrative support staff, offering mentorship, direction, and opportunities for professional growth while fostering a positive team culture. This is a dynamic, fast-paced role that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful positive impact on patient experience and care quality. This position is out of scope and on-site.

Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate with a Health-related focus. Business Administration, or related field may be considered. Five (5) years progressive experience in healthcare leadership with demonstrable expertise in provider management and strategic program oversight. Experience in acute care hospital or healthcare facility operations with knowledge of physician and alternate provider services. Demonstrated experience managing complex service contracts and performance management frameworks. Experience leading and supervising administrative staff, including conducting performance evaluations and professional development.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Proven ability to analyze financial data, understand budgetary implications, and make sound recommendations that balance clinical needs with fiscal responsibility. Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, and service improvement initiatives. Advanced proficiency in data analysis, report generation, and presentation development using business intelligence tools. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including senior leadership, physicians, and administrative personnel. Proven ability to maintain the highest levels of diplomacy, confidentiality, and professional integrity in complex situations. Advanced conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience mediating sensitive provider-related matters. Superior project management capabilities with demonstrated success in leading cross-functional initiatives. Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills with ability to synthesize complex information and develop strategic recommendations. Advanced computer literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, healthcare information systems, and data analysis tools. Exceptional organizational abilities with demonstrated capacity to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors of Nursing, Master’s degree with a healthcare focus, or relevant discipline. Four (4) to six (6) years supervisory experience supporting direct reports. Experience within a medical affairs/physician /corporate administration environment. Experience working with physicians and medical leadership groups in an administrative capacity. Familiarity with the personnel management systems, payment systems.
