Your Opportunity:
The Supervisor will oversee Pre-analytics and Core Laboratory at the Misericordia Hospital and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and all leadership aspects of people management in their respective area. The Supervisor supports the vision, mission, and strategic business plan of Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) and will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders which may include leaders at APL, Alberta Health Services, and Covenant Health. Key responsibilities of the Supervisor include but are not limited to recruitment and succession planning, staff development, performance management, change management, collective agreement interpretation, financial management, and strategic planning. In addition, the supervisor oversees day-to-day operations, quality standards, staff training and competency, in collaboration with the manager, forecasts additional resources required for new testing pressures or programs and collaborates with other hospital departments to maximize resources, sharing ideas and addressing common concerns.
Description:
Provides supervision to Technologists, Lab Assistants, and clerical staff ensuring they provide accurate, timely, laboratory services. Provides leadership for all staff and has the ability to cover the Manager and other Clinical Supervisors as required. Provides staff with appropriate development opportunities. Assures that attendance, abilities, and performance management implemented as required. Responsible for the application and explanation of collective agreements in consultation with Human Resources. Ensures a safe working environment by collaborating with APL safety to assure safe work methods and procedures. Ensures compliance with legislation affecting delivery of services (such as Protection of Persons in Care Act, Health Information Act, Health Professions Act, Personal Directives Act and Freedom of Information Protection and Privacy Act legislation). Facilitates / participates in research / trials as appropriate. Facilitates prompt emergency and disaster responses if applicable. Communicates with other departments and external agencies. Works closely with patient relations coordinator to address areas of concern in a timely fashion. Demonstrates effective stewardship of physical and financial resources by daily staffing assessments and attention to supplies, reagents, equipment. May participate in implementation of initiatives applicable to their area of responsibility. Maintains own competence in laboratory practice. The supervisor may assist in other general duties where the Manager sees fit.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in healthcare in a leadership role ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. An intermediate/advanced understanding of quality management systems. Solid understanding and involvement in the planning and validation activities related to the EPIC Clinical Information system. Proven leadership skills including team building, conflict resolution, written and verbal communication and facilitation skills. Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast paced and changing environment. Solution-orientated with a focus on creatively resolving issues.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must have a good understanding of quality control theory and application, and the supervision of a pre-analytics department and Core Laboratory. Candidates must be well organized, flexible, and able to work under pressure. Must possess good problem-solving skills. Computer literacy and keyboarding skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent experience as a supervisor in a high-volume urban hospital lab. Experience with validation and testing of EPIC Beaker LIS is an asset.
