Alberta Precision Laboratories is looking for a laboratory professional like you to provide technical expertise and leadership as you perform daily gross dissection of Level I – VI surgical specimens and plan, organize, and manage quality assurance services within the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Bringing advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, gross dissection techniques and guidelines, you can work both effectively independently and as part of a team, providing coaching or mentoring to other lab professionals as needed. Description:
As a Pathologists' Assistant I, you will perform gross examination (describe, dissect and document) specimens from biopsy and surgical procedures, selecting sections for processing. You will work in close collaboration with and under the supervision of pathologist medical staff in all matters relating to tissue examination, dissection, and staff/resident training and evaluation. You will assist Pathologists or Residents in the performance of Hospital-ordered autopsies, including receiving and preparing remains.

Master's Degree of Pathologists' Assistant or equivalent combination of education and experience recognized by the Canadian Association of Pathologists for Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistant (CCCPA) certification. Active or eligible for certification with the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA).
Additional Required Qualifications:3 - 5 years of recent relevant working experience, however new graduates will be considered. Advanced knowledge of gross dissection techniques and guidelines, tissue fixation and preservation techniques. Intermediate knowledge of cancer staging and grading requirements and guidelines. Knowledge to prepare tissues for special procedures, ancillary testing and intraoperative assessments. Ability to deal effectively with complicated technical procedures and maintain accurate records and documentation. Provide high quality service ensuring quality of samples and documentation is maintained.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of lab safety and biohazardous material handling and use of safety equipment, WHIMIS and TDG. Ability to preceptor MLT students. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrated skills in prioritization, critical thinking, multitasking and problem solving. Knowledge of Connect Care and Dragon Medical One.
