Your Opportunity:

The Non-Clinical PhD Scientist is a Program Leader position. The Program Leader plans, organizes, implements, and supervises all activities including research of the designated Program(s) for the Provincial Public Health Lab. This position is available for AHS Sponsorship and Relocation assistance.

Description:

The Program Leader will ensure the Program supports the direction and objectives of the ProvLab by developing a strategic plan, research projects, including goals and objectives for 1-3-5 years of collaborative, coordinated delivery of non-clinical laboratory services in the ProvLab. Responsibilities include provision of innovative quality program services to the clients and stakeholders of the Provincial Public health Lab, research and development, and undergraduate teaching as required. The Program Leader will coordinate and collaborate with technical staff, managers and physicians to ensure that the quality of laboratory services support the mandate for Public Health Lab and meet provincial, national and international standards. This position provides public health microbiology expertise through leadership and support to operational program staff and senior leadership related to the provincial public health lab testing mandate. The core functions of ProvLab include testing for pathogens of public health significance, population-based screening, laboratory surveillance to support cluster detection and disease trends of public health significance, specialized diagnostic testing, environmental water testing, education, and research. Molecular diagnostics including genomics approaches are key to effective and timely response of ProvLab to emerging pathogens.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Medical Microbiology or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated relevant public health or clinical microbiology laboratories, and academic experience, including expertise in molecular diagnostics and microbial genomics.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate: Effective communication, experience in quality assurance, operational efficiency and appropriateness of care. Ability to work in a dynamic, changing environment that allows for delivery of quality service. Ability to balance service and quality imperative in a resource-sensitive environment. Ability to work collaboratively, building trust in working relationships as an overall team player.
