Are you a safety-focused MLT who is passionate about workplace safety and customer service? APL is seeking someone like you to join our team as a Safety Technologist II. In this role, you will apply advanced knowledge of the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) and laboratory operations to support health and safety programs and processes within the clinical laboratory environment. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, accreditation standards, and biosafety and biosecurity requirements. In addition, you will provide on-site support to laboratories, including fit testing, ergonomic assessments, training, and assistance with chemical, biological, and occupational health and safety assessments, inspections, and incident investigations. In addition to strong attention to detail and good judgement, you have excellent organizational and communication skills that enable effective collaboration with diverse stakeholder groups. You promote a proactive safety culture, and respond to customers with professionalism and expertise, ensuring APL’s mission, vision, and values are reflected in the delivery of safety services. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, with 1-3 days on site per week at a location negotiable within the North Zone. Regular travel to sites in North Zone, and occasional travel outside the zone is required. Work hours may vary to accommodate operational needs (i.e. evening/night hours).

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of two (2) years' experience within the last five (5) working as an MLT in a clinical laboratory setting, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, APL currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. Microbiology or biosafety experience or education beyond initial MLT certification. Registered, or eligible, for Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST). Registered, or eligible, for Canadian Association for Biological Safety - Biological Safety Officer Designation. Recent (within the last 5 years) experience or education in change management, project management, and/or process improvement.
