You’re logical, investigative, and detail-oriented – just the kind of person we need at Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) for the role of Medical Laboratory Technologist – Core Chemistry. You can follow lab processes and procedures exactly, enter the associated data reliably and correctly, and discern subtle differences in lab samples as you perform chemistry analysis, analytical testing, quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting where needed. You’ll be working both independently and collaboratively within our team environment. Capable of effective time management, you have strong organizational skills. Strong communication/interpersonal skills will help you to thrive in the team environment and when you’re called upon to assist with training of new employees and students. You have flexibility in your schedule and can work a variety of different shifts as required. Comfortable with laboratory equipment and procedures, you readily learn, adapt, and become competent operating new and upgraded analytical equipment, performing new chemistry methodologies, and working with upgraded computer software programs. Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS), delivering high-quality, responsive diagnostic lab services to Albertans across our healthcare system. You’ll feel good knowing that your work helps healthcare professionals and patients get the information they need to make an accurate diagnosis, or to restore, maintain, or optimize health. Should the Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Fan-Out be activated, the successful candidate will be required to test samples from a patient with risk group 4 pathogens, using enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE), performing procedures with a containment level 3 (CL3) laboratory, and/or continued use of biological safety cabinets (BSC).

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent exposure in Core Chemistry at University of Alberta Hospital is strongly preferred. Recent experience in a high-volume chemistry setting an asset. Recent experience in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting high volume chemistry equipment which includes Cobas Pro, DxI 800, ABL 90 Flex Plus, Osmometer, 6890 Gas Chromatograph, Clarus 580 and Dual column Headspace GC, Automation Line, Delfia Xpress is preferred. Knowledge of the Epic Beaker Laboratory system. Must be able to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone or in writing, in an accurate, clear and concise manner. Candidate must be well organized, flexible and able to prioritize and work under pressure.. Must possess the ability to promote positive working relationships. Must demonstrate and promote the APL values of Kindness, Inclusion, Innovation, Agility and Accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

The ability to recognize testing/procedural anomalies and act appropriately to resolve these is required. Knowledge of the quality system, quality control theory and application. Must have the ability to operate Windows based computer applications. Successful candidate must be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions.
