Your Opportunity:
South Zone Point of Care Testing (POCT) is looking for a Technologist I. This non-patient facing role is involved in POCT operations locally and provincially as part of Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL). Responsibilities include performing new instrument or reagent evaluation and implementation, managing quality assurance requirements for POCT devices, and supporting our clinical operators. You will support the day-to-day operations, and the quality assurance functions for POCT in compliance with APL best practice standards and CPSA accreditation guidelines. You demonstrate your qualities as a self-starter by your ability to problem solve and offer solutions. The successful candidate will bring strong organizational skills, be able to participate collaboratively in a teamwork environment, troubleshoot instrument issues and have effective communication and customer service skills with multidisciplinary teams such as nurses and physicians. This technologist will have knowledge of POCT devices in use in the South Zone, POCT (Lab information systems) LIS such as AegisPOC, Epic Beaker. quality practices specific to POCT implementation, education and competency, and quality assurance. Travel to facilities within the South Zone and surrounding area will be required. Additional responsibilities as required.

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 3 years of Technologist experience in a clinical laboratory environment within the last 10 years. Experience with instrument, reagent, or method validation and implementation. Experience with the following computer applications: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint online. Valid Alberta driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:Preferred location for this position is Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Knowledge and experience with POCT devices such as blood gas analyzers, Abbott i-STAT and Roche Accu-Chek Inform II glucose meters. Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment is an asset. A formal Certificate or training in Quality Management Systems (QMS), experience with the development and application of a QMS.
