Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

This is a working level position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of diagnostic procedures within the Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Specimen Procurement depart., within the scope of practice of a MLT. The position includes days, evenings, weekends and on-call with a 30-minute response time. Current experience in Biochemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine required. The ability to effectively communicate in English. Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and ability to assume responsibility, work independently and promote good teamwork, under pressure and in emergency situations. Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, attention to detail, and adaptable. Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians. Practices effective infection control, and safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Demonstrated desire and actions to further own knowledge relating to profession and has the ability to prioritize workload and adapt to stressful situations using tact and diplomacy. Ability to interpret, explain and apply applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures. Evidence of CSMLS certification may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the past two years: Connect Care LIS experience and knowledge. Medical Terminology and experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Current phlebotomy experience. Working with; Access II, Vitros XT 3400, Dxh600, ACL Elite Pro, ISTAT, Triage, Ortho Gel method.
