Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to work various shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and take call by responding within 30 minutes. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Ability to operate technical instruments and equipment on a daily basis, assisting with equipment maintenance. Participation in training of new staff. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members, and personnel from other departments in a fast-paced and changing environment. Must demonstrate interest in professional growth and be prepared to maintain competency of technical skills. Proven analytic and problem solving skills, attention to detail, logical/methodical work habits, and ability to work independently. Performing all required Quality Control procedures, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records. Investigating and documenting Quality Control problems and following up with Charge Technologist. Following all established policies and procedures for performing and reporting various laboratory procedures using manual and automated processes. Organizing and prioritizing specimens/procedures based on urgency of request, stability of specimen, and timing protocols. Troubleshooting and documenting technical problems and contacting service, as required. Following all established safety policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent training or previous MLT experience, preferably in a rural setting is desirable.
