Required Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A BSc in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field and Genetics Technology Graduate advance Diploma (must be active or eligible for registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists). OR an equivalent 2 years of experience in an inherited disease molecular diagnostic laboratory. Current clinical laboratory experience and knowledge in these techniques is preferred, including but not limited to: DNA and RNA extractions, DNA Sanger sequencing, DNA NGS sequencing, PCR, repeat-primed PCR, real-time PCR, MLPA, genotyping, Southern blot hybridization. Bioinformatics experience such as BLAST, primer design, protein prediction analysis, splice site analysis and knowledge of Human Genome Variation Society (HGVS) sequence variant nomenclature is required. Must have proven interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to deal with conflicting and changing priorities, deadlines, and duties. Ability to work in a stressful environment and meet critical timelines while maintaining patient confidentiality. Attention to detail, aptitude and proficiency in manual and automated techniques is required. The ability to recognize testing/procedural anomalies and act appropriately to resolve these is required. Must have the ability to operate Windows, MS Office Applications, and be fluent in the English language (reading, writing and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to do advanced maintenance with minimal supervision is an asset. Working knowledge of Epic, Netcare, and Traccess applications. You understand and maintain a working knowledge of analytical techniques and demonstrate excellent problem solving, decision making, and troubleshooting skills. You are an organized, independent worker, and strong team player committed to providing quality patient care while being to deal courteously and tactfully with team members and other AHS staff.
