Your Opportunity:

This position is located at the University of Alberta Hospital in the Transplant Laboratory North in Edmonton. This position reports to the Clinical Supervisor, TTM program and takes direction from HLA Medical and Clinical Scientific staff. This position helps to ensure efficient TLN service by collaborating with TLN senior staff in evaluating, validating and assisting in implementation and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation. The Lab Scientist I will also assist senior staff in designing research protocols and participates in the orientation and training of staff, trainees, and pathology residents. Collaborates with senior staff where appropriate in communicating method development findings to the medical and scientific community through presentations, published papers/abstracts in peer reviewed journals or poster presentations. Demonstrates proficiency in LIS software within TLN. Acts as a resource to technical staff, when required, in troubleshooting and problem solving related to instrumentation, equipment and methodologies. In addition, this position will have an opportunity to work in a highly specialized team environment performing Histocompatibility procedures as per SOP to produce accurate and timely results. You will be working with our current laboratory information system, and be involved in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of equipment as well as reagents and working with senior staff to identify and resolve issues. You will evaluate and suggest follow up of abnormal testing results and report issues to and with senior staff on resolution.

Description:

As a Laboratory Scientist I, you will perform work involving laboratory processes including research and development, test method implementation and change, routine testing as well as clinical trials. In addition, you will collect background information including literature reviews, analyze data, and prepare research proposals and summary reports.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in a clinical histocompatibility laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred 3 years experience in a clinical histocompatibility laboratory. Master of Science degree preferred.
