Your Opportunity:
You’re a laboratory professional with a keen eye for detail and an affinity for hands-on laboratory practices- just the person we need in the Anatomic Pathology gross room at Edmonton Base Lab! In your role as a Histology Assistant, you will contribute to the team by performing specimen acceptance, gross description, and dissection of surgical tissue specimens. A focus on quality assurance, critical thinking, and problem-solving is essential. We are seeking a reliable and efficient candidate with strong interpersonal skills. Duties include handling and preparing tissue for routine or specialized processing, performing specimen acceptance, grossing, specimen filing, discard, decalcification, and tissue processor loading, routine maintenance and troubleshooting of various lab instruments. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.
Description:
As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will perform advanced preanalytical or analytical techniques on specimen/samples or coordinate, prioritize, monitor, and assign duties of laboratory staff in your assigned area. You will resolve escalated issues, conduct quality control investigations and maintain technical and operational procedures. You will be responsible for ensuring laboratory staff maintain compliance with policies and procedures and will provide coaching and feedback to staff and students.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Completion of Anatomy and Physiology, and Medical Terminology courses.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent and relevant experience in Anatomic Pathology is preferred. Experience with DMO voice recognition software is and asset. Experience with EPIC-Beaker LIS is an asset.
