Your Opportunity:
The University of Alberta hospital is looking to fill a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) role in the Toxicology/Trace Elements laboratory. Here you will have the opportunity to work both independently and as a member of our team where you will utilize your interpersonal skills while performing all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA I. Here you will be responsible for programming technical instruments, performing quality control procedures and minor equipment maintenance, preparing specimens for storage or for transport to other facilities, and filing, retrieving and disposing of clinical samples. The position organizes workflow, receives, organizes and distributes specimens for laboratory testing and investigation. You will perform primary manipulation and other specific related procedures on specimens as set out in the Laboratory Procedures Manual. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in various hospitals and health care facilities regarding specimens. This role offers you the opportunity to strengthen your skills in the collection of clinical water samples for quality control testing, pipette calibration verification, inventory management, document storage and retrieval, and reagent preparation will be a component of this position. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Data entry experience. Experience with inventory control, equipment maintenance, and specimen handling. Experience with Epic within the last year. Experience handling hazardous chemicals.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in Toxicology and Trace Elements. Experience in a Clinical Chemistry laboratory.
