Important Information: This is rotating shifts including day, afternoon & possibly weekend shifts. Operating 24/7, the DSC Pre/Post Analytics department in the Southern Alberta Hub Lab plays a key role in the delivery of customer-focused laboratory services & is vital to the operation of the laboratory. The Send Outs Medical Lab Assistant I is a key front-line position within Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) reporting to the Pre-Post Analytics Leadership Team. This position has the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of setting the new direction, strategy, and vision for APL to advance accessible and quality patient focused, provincially integrated services in a sustainable manner. MLAs in the Send Outs area support a professional and positive attitude while promoting a positive & respectful work environment consistent with the APL Values. They develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders which may include Operations and Medical Leaders at APL, Academic Institutions, other external organizations and with external testing locations within Alberta, Canada, U.S. & internationally. As a MLAI in Pre-Analytics send-outs, you will provide high quality service to clients of APL in an effective, efficient & safe manner. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Receiving, processing, packing & shipping of specimens using a variety of logistics methods. Reporting and reconciliation of results and other information. Quality management and troubleshooting. Seeking approval for referred testing, data entry and other duties. Identifying opportunities for safer practices, workflow improvements, and applies process improvement principles. May be cross trained in other Pre Analytics departments to meet operational needs. As workload demands and operational requirements shift, the location, dates and/or hours of work may be changed.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Proficiency in data entry-Epic (Beaker) is preferred, Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams. Customer service experience including addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and fulfilling information requests.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a Medical Lab and pre-analytics within the last 2 years.Experience preparing shipments to internal & external destinations.Able to identify lab sample variations&accurately enter information into system databases & external lab systems.Demonstrated strengths in active listening, verbal and written communication,conflict resolution & decision making.Experience collaborating effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.Courses in AHS Improvement Way (AIW), LEAN, Change Management.
