Your Opportunity:

The Edmonton Molecular Genetics Laboratory offers a dynamic, team-based work environment and is actively involved in clinical testing for a wide range of genetic conditions. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with laboratory staff to deliver high-quality patient results and contribute to ongoing process improvement initiatives. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a key role in daily laboratory operations, including specimen reception, pre-analytical processing, and administrative support. Given the critical nature of genetic testing, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong teamwork, problem-solving skills, and adaptability, with the ability to remain flexible in response to changing workflows and priorities. Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the successful candidate will support pre-analytical processes, including the receipt and accessioning of patient samples. This role also involves active participation in laboratory quality initiatives, inventory management, and process coordination. The individual will be highly engaged across multiple workflows and will serve as a point of contact to support the efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory team.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Competency with windows-based computer applications (ex. Microsoft Office, database/spreadsheet applications) and mathematical calculations is required. The ability to stand, sit, lift and carry equipment and supplies is a must. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and within a team environment. The individual must have proven effective time management and organizational skills, and be a strong team player committed to providing quality patient care. Strong communication skills are a must. To be successful in this role, the candidate must be quality focused and have very good attention to details. The individual must demonstrate excellent problem solving skills, having the ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities according to the situation. Communication and interpersonal skills must enable this individual to build and maintain relationships, facilitate teamwork, resolve conflict and manage change. The successful candidate will represent Genetics & Genomics, as part of Alberta Precision Laboratories, in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.
