Your Opportunity:
The APL Flow Cytometry Department at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Calgary, has an opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Assistant I. Under the direction of the Lab Director, Medical Laboratory Technologist II, Supervisor or Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to staining, making reagents, monitoring and stocking inventory, washing laboratory glassware, tissue processing, labeling, printing, daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance, sending and receiving samples, filing and archiving paperwork and other related duties. The successful MLA will: Perform lab processes and procedures in a precise, analytical, and detail-oriented manner, with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to build positive, collaborative working relationships with coworkers, clinicians, internal and external clients. Operate and maintain the staining bench, prepare reagents and QC of the reagents monitor department supply inventory and act appropriately to maintain. Identify opportunities for safer practices & workflow improvement and apply process improvement principles. May be cross trained in other departments to meet operational needs. Maintain a professional and positive attitude while promoting a positive, & respectful work environment consistent with the APL Values: kindness, inclusion, innovation, agility & accuracy.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Additional Required Qualifications:As required.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a clinical lab setting within the last 6 months. Working knowledge of Epic Connect Care. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs. Courses or training in process improvement or change management.
