Your Opportunity:
The Pre- and Post Analytics (PPA) Department is a fast-paced, non-patient-facing laboratory area that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Lab Assistants rotate through a variety of shifts and key workstations, including data entry, specimen receiving, sorting, delivery, and phone room operations. As the hub laboratory for the North and Central Zones, PPA processes a high volume of specimens each day and plays a critical role in supporting patient care behind the scenes. The department receives and manages more than 400 toolboxes daily, requiring strong teamwork, attention to detail, and efficient workflow management. This dynamic and supportive environment relies on effective communication, adaptability, and collaboration. Staff are responsible for ensuring specimens are accurately documented, handled, and routed in a timely manner, helping maintain the smooth and efficient operation of laboratory services across the province. This is a temporary position which ends on or before July 30, 2027.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
