APL Westlock Healthcare Centre is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant I to join our laboratory services team on a temporary 0.8 basis. This role offers hands‑on experience in inpatient and outpatient settings. In this position, you will work closely with technologists and clinical teams to ensure accurate specimen collection, processing, and data management. You will also gain experience performing urinalysis, ECGs, and Holter monitor procedures, making this an excellent opportunity for skill development in a supportive environment. The Town of Westlock is located one hour northwest of Edmonton, just north of the continental divide between the Athabasca and North Saskatchewan River basins and east of the Pembina River. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.
Preferred Qualifications:Medical laboratory assistant (or equivalent), experience in a hospital setting. Phlebotomy, ECG, Urinalysis and Holter Monitor experience is preferred.
