APL is seeking a skilled and motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Smoky Lake Mobile Collections team. This dynamic role offers the chance to work independently while traveling between three sites—Radway, Thorhild, and Smoky Lake. Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement. At least 2 years of recent phlebotomy, data entry and ECG experience. Ability to work independently within a team environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on client services and public relations. Ability to perform repetitive duties efficiently and accurately. Valid driver’s license and Vehicle with appropriate insurance is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in a mobile collection environment is an asset. Working knowledge of Connect Care and MCIS. Excellent organizational, problem solving, troubleshooting and decision-making skills. Strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
