Your Opportunity:

This is a multisite position in which scheduled shifts will be at Strathcona Community Hospital Lab and shifts at Fort Saskatchewan Hospital and Alberta Hospital Labs will be as needed to support operations. The Strathcona Community Hospital is in Sherwood Park, and both cities are in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, that is surrounded by Parkland County. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, processing and reporting quality specimens for analysis. The Medical Laboratory Assistant I primary responsibilities include collection of blood specimens from adults and children using macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, performing ECGs, complete urinalysis, accessioning patient information into the laboratory EPIC computer system, processing samples, transport of specimens and slides, troubleshooting problem specimens and reception duties.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience with phlebotomy in the last 2 years. Experience with the last 2 years with Epic. Experience in the last 2 years with specimen processing in Epic.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience performing urinalysis in the last 2 years. Experience performing ECGs in the last 2 years. Experience loading analyzers such as the Sysmex XNL550.
