Your Opportunity:
This is a multisite position in which scheduled shifts will be at Fort Saskatchewan and shifts at Strathcona Hospital Lab and Alberta Hospital Lab will be as needed to support operations. Fort Saskatchewan, and Sherwood Park are towns in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, processing and reporting quality specimens for analysis. The Medical Laboratory Assistant I primary responsibilities include collection of blood specimens from adults and children using macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, performing ECGs, complete urinalysis, accessioning patient information into the laboratory EPIC computer system, processing samples, transport of specimens and slides, troubleshooting problem specimens and reception duties.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent experience within the last two years performing phlebotomy and using EPIC Beaker Laboratory Information System is required. Recent experience with data entry, specimen processing, and specimen troubleshooting in EPIC Beaker is required. Experience performing urinalysis using the Clinitek Advantus.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a high-volume lab setting is an asset. Recent experience using Rover is preferred. Interest or knowledge in APL safety protocols is an asset. Experience performing minor equipment maintenance, assisting with loading analyzers such as Sysmex XNL550, and inventory management is an asset. Experience with EPIC downtime is an asset. Experience performing ECGs is an asset.
