Your Opportunity:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide support to the Hematology and Transfusion Medicine departments within the Red Deer Regional Hospital Laboratory. You will work in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced, and dynamic environment and have the opportunity to showcase your time-management skills and attention to detail. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to utilize your excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills while working both independently and as part of a team. Your role will perform duties such as assisting with bone marrow collections; reagent and product inventory receipt, labelling and storing; analyzer and equipment maintenance; reports review; as well as staff and student training as required.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry is required. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. Must be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. Able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience in a Transfusion Medicine Laboratory and/or Wellsky LIS is an asset. Experience assisting with Bone Marrow sample collections.
