Your Opportunity:
The Northeast Community Health Centre and East Edmonton Health Centre is looking to fill a Medical Laboratory Assistant I role where you, as the successful candidate, will have the opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of our team. The primary location of this position is the Northeast Community Health Centre - shift schedule is primarily weekday and weekend day shifts and may change based on operational requirements. The successful candidate will be scheduled at the East Edmonton Health Centre as needed to support operations. The Northeast Community Health Centre is a facility that offers a 24/7 Emergency Department and a variety of Ambulatory and Diagnostic Imaging services collaborating to provide high quality health care to patients. Laboratory Assistants perform waiting room collections, ER collections, and outpatient collections. The East Edmonton Health Centre is a facility offering a variety of Ambulatory and Diagnostic Imaging services by day, and serves as an Urgent Care Clinic in the evening. Laboratory assistants are currently only scheduled for weekday day shifts. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting and processing quality specimens for analysis. The Medical Laboratory Assistant I primary responsibilities include collection of blood specimens from adults and children using macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, performing ECGs, performing urinalysis, data entry and requisition scanning, processing samples for transport and testing, troubleshooting problem specimens, and performing routine maintenance activities.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Phlebotomy, ECG, and urinalysis experience within the last 2 years is required.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience using EPIC Beaker and Rover is strongly recommended. Experience within the last 2 years with data entry, specimen processing and handling is preferred. Experience using SPECTRE would be beneficial.
