We are actively seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant with experience and knowledge of policies and procedures to join our dynamic team in providing the highest level of service to our clients. As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position is responsible for working all shifts as assigned by the site Senior Technologist. Specifically, this position collects specimens, performs sample handling and manipulation, ECGs, urinalysis including microscopic analysis, and reports results within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Assistant. Reporting directly to the on-site senior technologists and the Clinical Supervisor, the MLA will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. In accordance with Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) and other privacy legislation in effect the incumbent shall comply at all times with APL / AHS’s Information Privacy and Information Security policies.

You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent training or experience related to clinical laboratory required. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Proven ability to work within a computer-based environment. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast pace changing environment. Ability to work independently when necessary. Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills. Demonstrate a customer service attitude and delivery of excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer (internal and external) client needs by means of building productive and respectful customer relations and taking responsibility for customer satisfaction.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred, including neonates. Minimum 1 year experience within Calgary Rural Zone laboratory is preferred. Ability to facilitate change positively by encouraging others and accepting change within the workplace. Demonstrated personal leadership, regardless of role, by leading themselves through change, building positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships. Urinalysis Experience preferred.
