Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions to provide support by receiving, accessioning, distributing patient specimens to the testing areas or referral bench and phlebotomy at the University of Alberta Hospital. Duties are primarily sorting and matching specimens to requestions and packing lists, accessioning requisitions into a laboratory information system for specimens referred in, receiving referred in specimens for testing, specimen distribution, send outs and phlebotomy. Additional duties include phlebotomy, depending on operational need.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent phlebotomy experience is required. Successful demonstration of laboratory and data entry skills is required. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. The successful candidate must be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. The candidate selected will have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. The successful candidate must represent Alberta Precision Laboratories in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent phlebotomy experience within the last 6 months. Knowledge and training in EPIC-Beaker. Recent experience in using Rover within the last 6 months.
