Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics. Active or eligible for registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Bachelor of Science Degree and Advanced Diploma in Clinical Genetics from a recognized program of clinical genetics technology (eg. BCIT/Michener). Experience with basic laboratory equipment including but not limited to pipettes, thermal cyclers, microscopes, electrophoresis equipment, DNA sequencers, and other automated laboratory equipment. Experience with molecular biology techniques including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction, PCR, genotyping, sequencing, and microarray as well as analytical software such as GeneMapper, Sequence Analysis, and SeqPilot. Experience with specialized computer imaging platforms for karyotyping and FISH analysis. Knowledge of the theory and practice of human cytogenetic analysis including proper use of ISCN nomenclature. Experience using bioinformatic tools for primer design and in silico variant characterization. Proficient use of database/spreadsheet applications. Proven critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, planning, and decision making skills. Strong attention to detail as well as superior organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize work and deliver accurate work under stressful conditions. Demonstrated ability to deal with conflicting and changing priorities, deadlines, and duties. English fluency with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Two years of recent experience in a diagnostic genetic laboratory performing cytogenetic and molecular genetic testing and interpretation.
