The Registered Psychiatric Nurse/ Registered Nurse (RPN/RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide care to clients across the life span. The RPN/RN ensures the development, implementation and ongoing administration of the client care plans. The RPN/RN assesses, coordinates, supervises, administers and evaluates the provision of health services and health care resources. The Registered psychiatric Nurse/ Registered Nurse accepts responsibility for continuing competencies through ongoing professional development, including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The RN demonstrates the ability to accurately and effectively assess client status and to take appropriate intervention measures that have significant impact on the client's medical condition, safety, as well as ultimate recovery. The RPN/RN must follow Nursing standards/protocols as required in area of nursing specialty related to the job assignment.

Description:

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Registered Nurses may apply with experience working with acute mental health presentations (1+ years) RN applicants must be registered with CARNA. Demonstrated awareness of common psychiatric medications and mental status examination.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong written and verbal communication skills. NVCI training (full course). Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to maintain long-term professional working relationships. Suicide risk assessment training.
