The Calgary Zone Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is recruiting for a 1.0 FTE position to be filled by a Physician Assistant (PA) at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) to work with the Section of Gynecologic Oncology. Under the supervision of a physician, the PA will provide medical, post-operative and intra-operative care (surgical assisting) to patients with gynecologic cancer conditions, allowing the PA to work to their full scope of practice. Description:
This position is based within a collegial team of Gynecologic Oncologists, Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM. The PA will support women’s health by assessing patients, creating and communicating care plans, performing consultations and follow-up (in-person and virtual) in clinic, wards and Emergency Room, rounding on inpatients post-operatively, and assisting in the Operating Room for gynecologic oncology surgeries. Additional responsibilities include teaching medical students, residents, and PA learners. The PA is expected to maintain ongoing professional education to meet CAPA and patient care requirements, foster strong working relationships with all team members, and, in exceptional circumstances, provide additional services under physician supervision within their clinical competence. All work is to be carried out in alignment with AHS policies and procedures. The Section of Gynecologic Oncology is very enthusiastic to welcome a Physician Assistant to become a valued member of the care team and believes this will be a crucial role to elevate the already high standard of care we provide our patients and to liaise with community physicians, health care providers, and organizations to ensure continuity of care for our patients.

Completion of a recognized Physician Assistant Program. Demonstration of active registration as a PA registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. BCLS certification required. Experience in Connect Care and acute care hospital settings is preferred but not required.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrate skills. Competency in women’s health history and physical examination. Excellent communication skills. Family centered, trauma-informed and collaborative approach to care. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with multidisciplinary teams. Ability to learn and perform basic technical procedures in women’s health (including but not limited to speculum exam, bimanual exam, endometrial biopsy, cervical biopsy, Pap smear).
