Your Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Cardiac Surgery multidisciplinary team based out of the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC). Unit 91 is a 38 bed post cardiac surgery unit that cares for approximately 1700 post cardiac surgical patients each year. This position will provide frontline clinical care to all cardiac surgery patients. Reporting to the Manager of Cardiac Surgery, the NP will manage patients admitted to Unit 91 from the CVICU and collaborate with the team including Physicians, nursing staff, leaders, allied health team members (including but not limited to Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Social Work and Physiotherapy). The NP will provide comprehensive, holistic and patient-family centered care and contribute to patient care through advanced clinical practice, leadership, consultations, referrals, education, and research. In addition, the NP will provide nursing education and leadership and will be involved in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and program development related to Cardiac Surgery patients. The NP requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships with staff, the management team, physicians, and all members of the interdisciplinary team. The NP will demonstrate advanced skills in the areas of communication, organization, critical thinking, conflict resolution, problem solving, interdisciplinary leadership, and change management.
Description:
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master's degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner Program. Minimum 3 years cardiology nursing experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Nurse or Nurse Practitioner experience in cardiac surgery or acute cardiac care patient setting. Experience with the development and/or implementation of research and/or evidence-based practice. AHS AIW and/or AHS PROSCI certification (or equivalent). Demonstrated continuing professional and practice competency through professional development activities
