The Grey Nuns Hospital Emergency department is one of Edmonton’s highest volume Emergency Departments. Our team of health care professionals is focused on providing specialized Emergency care and urgent treatments in a community hospital setting. The Registered Nurse is a leader in the ED team and provides a wide variety of nursing care to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families to make a positive difference toward their health and well-being. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care with attention to promoting a positive patient experience to those we serve in the Emergency Department all while practicing and role-modelling our Covenant values of Respect, Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, Stewardship, and Social Justice.
Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications:Previous Emergency Department experience OR ICU/CCU experience OR Two years Medical/Surgical/Labor and Delivery experience required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Excellent assessment and organizational skills required. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:CTAS Triage experience preferred. Charge nurse experience preferred. Preference will be given to those with one or more of the following certifications: ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, and EPIC. Experience and ability to work with cardiac monitors preferred. Dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation of ECG’s preferred. Experience with Connect Care EHR an asset.
