Description:

The Program Assistant (PA) reports to the Team Lead, OHS Abilities Management, working both independently and collaboratively alongside the Ability Management Advisor team to support Covenant Health employees across Alberta who require assistance to remain at work or return to work following a medical leave. The PA establishes and maintains electronic case files using computer‑based tools, capturing critically important details and dates. A key responsibility is liaising with external partners such as WCB‑Alberta and Sun Life Canada, and internal partners including unions, benefit administrators, and operational leaders. The PA is responsible for administering employee salary continuance for both work‑related and non‑work‑related disabilities, including sick bank usage, Covenant Health bridging benefits, Alberta-WCB compensation, and short‑ and long‑term disability benefits. The PA is responsible for providing administrative support for modified work duties and gradual return‑to‑work plans, including reporting employee schedules and earnings to external insurance providers. In doing this work, the PA creates and reviews related reports to ensure that employees are paid correctly and avoid the interruption of their services and benefits. The PA writes letters periodically using templates and communicates through e-mail, telephone, and MS Teams Messenger. The PA must ensure all tasks comply with Covenant Health guidelines, benefit provider contracts, and applicable legislation and Collective Agreements. This position primarily uses digital tools and serves as a first point of contact for a variety of internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent may apply to work in a hybrid environment, with up to two days per week working from a home office and three days per week on‑site. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Must have excellent time‑management abilities and the capacity to multitask in a fast‑paced environment. Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in data gathering and digital documentation. Solid computer literacy, including MS Outlook, Teams, Word, and the ability to learn additional applications such as disability management platforms, payroll systems, and scheduling databases.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to thrive in a team environment and prioritize work/tasks as needed.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a healthcare environment, particularly with scheduling or payroll systems. Familiarity with medical terminology. Experience using tools such as MS Excel, Cority or other third‑party disability management databases, KRONOS, and e‑People or similar HR platforms.
