Description:
As an integral member of the Provincial Nutrition, Food, Linen, Environmental Services (NFLES) portfolio, the Manager of Environmental Services (EVS) and Portering is responsible for the overall leadership and daily operations of EVS, patient transport/portering, linen/laundry, and waste management across Grey Nuns Community Hospital. Key Responsibilities include planning, organizing and directing all EVS and Portering activities to support patient care and operational efficiency. Leading, mentoring and developing a diverse team of supervisors, housekeepers, and porters, fostering a culture of safety, quality and service excellence. Financial responsibility includes managing budgets, staffing levels, and resources to ensure cost-effective operations without compromising quality. Collaborate across departments and beyond. Working closely with clinical leaders, administrative teams, external vendors, and community stakeholders to ensure best practices in cleaning protocols, patient transport, and quality improvement initiatives are being implemented and met. Monitoring performance metrics (Connect Care dashboards, reporting, and audits) and implementing strategies to enhance service delivery, sustainability, and customer satisfaction. Represent Covenant Health at Provincial AHS led meetings to ensure our EVS and Patient Transport needs are identified. Post secondary education in management studies, hotel/hospitality management, healthcare management OR a recognized equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3 years of management experience in environmental services, housekeeping, portering, waste management - ideally in healthcare or an acute-care setting. Experience leading large, diverse teams (including leading in an unionized environmental) and front-line supervisors.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Strong problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to think ahead, plan proactively, and introduce creative solutions that support long-term organizational goals. Familiarity with Infection Control prevention (IPC) standards, environmental cleaning protocols, and Occupational Health and Safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education in business accounting OR equivalent experience. Quality and Improvement experience in continuous quality improvement initiatives and performance-metric reporting. Familiarity with technology including MS Office, Connect Care and financial software and employee scheduling.
